The mission of the Tampa Urban Junior Golf/First Tee of Tampa Bay is to positively impact the lives and futures of young people by creating affordable and accessible golf experiences through a variety of programs, outreach opportunities, and character building initiatives.
The Urban Junior Golf Program has been operating since 1991, and a branch of the Tampa Metropolitan Area YMCA since January 1998. In 1999 we became an official chapter of The First Tee, and in 2000 an official site for the LPGA Girls Golf Club. Both are national affiliations. Two primary objectives are county-wide Urban Initiative that introduces children from underserved neighborhoods to the game; and integrates our activities with other existing YMCA programs. In addition, we blend life skills, character development, and values into our golf curriculum.
General Membership- We are open to all boys and girls between ages seven and eighteen. Urban Junior Golf members are for reciprocal programs at Tampa YMCA branch locations. Tournament play, instructional classes and day camps are open to members and non-members; however, members receive a discounted rate. Consistent with The First Tee national initiative, our lesson cirricula develops skills at all levels. Each skill level provides greater on course access and entitiles members to accelerated learning opportunities.
