Shettle and Shin Dominate FJT

Jake Grula, of Winter Park and William Wrigley, of Winter Garden were the only red numbers of round one, both posting a one-under par 71. Grula had a two-under front nine, with a tough birdie on number 18 to bring him back to one-under par. Dalton Shettle, of Pinellas Park and Colin Kresl, of Lakeland were one shot back tied at third recording an even par 72.

A fire was lit in Dalton Shettle on the front-nine during round two. After recording a bogey on the second hole and a double-bogey on hole four, Shettle went on a birdie streak birdying holes six through eight. He fell to a bogey on the tenth hole but followed with birdies on 13 and 18 to shoot one-under par, 71. Shettle finished the tournament at 143, one-under par to earn his first win on the Florida Junior Tour. Louis DelFabro and Colin Kresl tied for second place with a tournament total 145, two-strokes behind. First round leader, William Wrigley, fell to a tied for fourth-place finish after a second round 75 and tournament total 146. 

In the Girls’ division Brittany Shin, of Cape Coral and Hannah Leiner, of PompanoBeach both led after round one, posting an even par 72. Hannah Leiner battled the wind during her round and was able to turn her two-over front nine into a two-under back nine to bring her back to even par. Kate Williamson, of Deerfield Beach stood alone in third place, four-shots back, at 76.

Brittany Shin broke the tie for first place on Sunday to win her first FJT event of 2015. Brittany played a steady first-nine holes on day two with a bogey on 13 followed by a birdie on 16. The wind increased significantly in the late afternoon and Shin fought to a final nine hole score of five-over par 41, second round 77. This was enough to remain in first place and win by one-stroke with a 149 tournament total. Second place was taken by Hannah Leiner who stayed close to Shin all day but after a double-bogey on her last hole fell to a 150 tournament total.  Andie Shukow finished in third place with rounds of 77-74—151.
