DuBois & Pano Victorious

February 21, 2016

Sunshine and warm temperatures made for wonderful golf conditions at Amelia Island Plantation, on the Oak Marsh Course, February 20-21. The 13-15 year old Florida Junior Tour players finished round one with a close race at the top of the leaderboard. In the boy’s division, Leopoldo Herrera III, of Doral, took the early lead with a round one, two over-par, 74. Four players were only one shot back from Leo after shooting opening rounds of 75. The four way tie for second included, David Morgan, Nicklas Staub, Tiaan Mattiace, and Jackson Crandall. Jonathan Yaun stood in sixth place after posting an opening round 76, placing him two strokes back of Leo heading into the final round.

The boys’ division saw a change in the leaderboard after the final round as Saturday’s leaders fell from the top. As Herrera struggled to a second round 80, John DuBois came from behind to capture a first place win! DuBois, from Windermere, posted rounds of 78-73 for a tournament total 151 in his second ever FJT event, making this his first FSGA victory. Coleman Barnes, of Lake Mary, and Davis Lee, of Ponte Vedra Beach, tied for second place with strong second rounds of 72 and 75 respectively. The two finished with a tournament total 152, one stroke behind DuBois. Justin Rickerson, Jayson K Iten, and Andrew Farraye finished the tournament with a 153 total, tied for fourth place.

In the girl's division, second year FJT member, Juliana Camargo, from Winter Garden, led after round one with a three over-par, 75. Lake Worth resident, Alexa Pano, sat in second place after Saturday’s round, one stroke out of first with a 76. Lauren Heinlein, Victoria Hwang, Emily Felix, and Sophie Membrino were all tied for third place with opening rounds of six over-par 78. An impressive low tournament round in the girls’ division was posted by Pano in the final round on Sunday to propel her to victory! Pano's solid even par round moved her into first place by two strokes giving her a 148 tournament total. This is Pano’s second win in the 13-15 division at the age of 11 years old. Camargo, who is only 12 years old, finished in second place with consistent rounds of 75 for a tournament total 150.

The 16-18 Florida Junior Tour travels to Stone Creek Golf Club in Ocala on February 27-28, while the 13-15 age division will gather in Tampa at Temple Terrace Golf and Country Club on March 5-6.
