99th Amateur heads to Fiddlesticks CC

The 99th State Amateur Championship will head to Fiddlesticks Country Club, June 23-26.  Entries will close Wednesday, May 11th.  This will be the first time Fiddlesticks will host the Amateur, however the club is no stranger to FSGA Championships. Fiddlesticks Country Club has hosted the multiple State Championships for Men and Women as well as USGA Sectional qualifiers.

Miromar Lakes Beach & Golf Club, in Fort Myers, will serve as the co-host of the 99th Amateur Championship.  All players qualifying for the Championship proper will play one round at each Fiddlesticks CC and Miromar Lakes on Thursday, June 23rd and Friday, June 24th. The field will then be cut to the low 70 players and ties, with the final 36-holes conducted at Fiddlesticks Country Club on Saturday, June 25th and Sunday, June 26th.

In 2015, over 750 players attempted to qualify for the championship held at Golden Ocala Golf & Equestrian Club and Ocala National Golf Club, in Ocala.  Jimmy Jones Jr., of Tampa, prevailed over the field of 168 players in a playoff with a tournament total of 278.

Started in 1914, the FSGA State Amateur is the oldest continuous sporting event in the state as well as the largest amateur event in Florida.  Past State Amateur Champions include Bob Murphy, Jerry Pate, David Peoples, Chris Couch, Blayne Barber and Barry Cheeseman.
