Horsfield Stays Hot

June 20, 2012

U.S. Amateur Public Links qualifying is now complete in Florida and there are some familiar names who will be making their way to the Championship in July.  The FSGA conducted three 36 hole qualifiers at Jacaranda GC, in Plantation, Fox Hollow GC in Trinity and North Shore Golf Club in Orlando.

Reigning FSGA Boys' Junior Champion (13-15 division) Sam Horsfield fired rounds of 65-67 to capture medalist honors at the qualifier at North Shore GC.  The Davenport native's performance comes off the heels of a 66-68 performance to medal at the U.S. Junior Amateur qualifier just 5 days prior.  That's an incredible 20 under par for four rounds!  Florida Junior Tour standout Colin Engelhardt of Orlando also qualified with rounds of 67-70, while Mt. Dora's Jon Veneziano acting as the elder stateman of the group carded 71-69 to grab the final spot.

John Wegmann of Southwest Ranches earned medalist honors at Jacaranda Golf Club shooting rounds of 73-71 to qualify.  Wegmann is very comfortable on the grounds of Jacaranda's East course, where he finished 5th in the FSGA Public Links Championship two weeks prior.  The other spot was filled by
Robert Cavanagh of Perham, MN who shot 72-75.

The final qualifier was held at Fox Hollow Golf Club in Trinity.  Three-time FSGA Four-Ball champion Joseph Alfieri of Lutz captured the lone qualifying spot after posting rounds of 71-72.  The players will advance to the championship at Soldier Hollow Golf Course in Midway, Utah on July 9-14.
