Jake Manelas - 2 under-par, 70
Jake Manelas did not waste any time capturing his first Florida Junior Tour victory! In his first event on the FJT, Jake came out of the gate firing at the flags. On his front nine alone, Jake carded 3 birdies leading to an opening nine hole score of 2 under-par, 34. A steady back nine, including just 1 birdie and 1 bogey gave Jake a very impressive round of 2 under-par, 70. Jake is only the second player in the 10-12 age division to post an under-par round! Pavel Tsar and Max Fonseca finished in a tie for second four strokes behind Manelas with rounds of 2 over-par, 74.
Morgan Rodriguez - 8 over-par, 80
Morgan Rodriguez, similar to Jake, was also playing in her first Florida Junior Tour event this weekend. After her opening nine hole score of 5 over-par, 41, Morgan started to make her charge on the closing nine holes. With back-to-back birdies on 13 and 14, Morgan played the last 6 holes of her round at 1 under-par placing her in a tie with past FJT Champion, Brianna Castaldi. Morgan and Brianna headed to the 18th hole for the playoff, a slight dogleg right par-4 with a green guarded by numerous bunkers. After both pitching their third shots onto the green, Brianna narrowly missed her 12 footer for par leaving Morgan with a testy 4 foot putt for the win. Morgan made a confident stroke on the 4 footer and her ball found the bottom of the hole for her first victory on the Florida Junior Tour.
Please stay tuned for the Fall portion of the 10-12 schedule!
