Round 1 Complete at the 58th Boys' Junior

Ryan Stovash fired a five-under par 67 to take a one stroke lead in the 58th Florida State Boys' Junior Championship, as Andy Zhang and Landon Weber share the lead at two-under par in the 13-15 age division at Sawgrass Country Club and TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach. The Championship continues through Thursday, July 12.

Ryan Stovash, of Orlando, (pictured right) fired an impressive round of five-under par 67 on the Dye’s Valley Course at TPC Sawgrass to lead the 58th Boys’ Junior Championship. Stovash, who started out on number 10, turned at one-under par 35, and caught fire his back nine with birdies on 1, 3, 4, 5, and 8 to go along with only one bogey for a back nine of four-under par 32. Danny Walker, of Bradenton, finds himself alone in second place after a round of four-under par 68 on the Dye’s Valley Course. The 2010 (16-18) Champion Hank Lebioda, of Winter Springs, stands in third place posting a three-under par 69 on the Dye’s Valley course. The Defending Champion Hunter O’Mahony, of Tequesta, is currently tied for 16th place after a first round one-over par 73.

In the 13-15 age division, Andy Zhang, of Reunion (pictured left), and Landon Weber, of Bonita Springs, share the first round lead after firing rounds of two-under par 70 at Sawgrass Country Club. Zhang, who recently competed in the U.S. Open Championship as the youngest competitor in the 112 years of the event, posted a two-under par round of 70 at Sawgrass Country Club. Zhang’s round included five birdies to go along with his three bogeys. Weber, also playing Sawgrass Country Club, posted a one-over 37 on the front nine, and finished strong with a three-under par 33 on the back nine. The pair will take a one shot lead heading into the second round of play on the Dye’s Valley course at TPC Sawgrass. Jack Comstock, of Jacksonville, is currently in third place after a round of one-under par 71 at Sawgrass Country Club.

Before reaching the Championship, more than 375 participants attempted to qualify at one of 6 sites across the state. In the Championship, participants will play eighteen holes each at Sawgrass Country Club (Esat/West) and TPC Sawgrass (Dye’s Valley) on Tuesday, July 10th and Wednesday, July 11th.  After thirty-six holes, the field will be cut to the low 40% of each field plus ties. The final eighteen holes will be played at Sawgrass Country Club.

To enter, participants must be between the ages of 13-18 as of July 12 and not attending college. Also, the juniors must have a handicap index no higher than 17.4.
