T.J. Vogel Wins U.S. Public Links

July 13, 2012

Miami native, T.J. Vogel captured the 2012 Amateur Public Links Championship in commanding fashion.  Vogel won the all Florida final over Kevin Aylwin, 12 & 10 to take the title.  The 21-year old made quick work of Aylwin, a 3-time FSGA Public Links champion, after making birdies on 6 of his final 7 holes of the morning round he held a commanding 10 up lead at lunch time.  He did not lose a hole or even make a bogey all day.

For his victory, Vogel receives a gold medal, custody of the James D. Standish Trophy, a 10-year APL exemption, exemptions into the next two U.S. Amateurs, a three-year exemption from local U.S. Open qualifying (provided he remains an amateur) and an invitation to the 2013 Masters Tournament. Aylwin is exempt into next month's U.S. Amateur at Cherry Hills Country Club in suburban Denver and receives an exemption out of local qualifying for the 2013 U.S. Open, along with a three-year APL exemption.

With the inclusion of Orlando's Brad Schneider, three of the four semifinalists hailed from the sunshine state.  Click here for more information and full results.
