Parent-Child Championship Begins Saturday

July 24, 2013

This weekend four-hundred men, women, boys and girls of all ages will travel to the magical land of Walt Disney World to play in the FSGA's largest championship event; the Parent-Child Championship.  Each of the six divisions will play on four different Walt Disney courses, Magnolia, Lake Buena Vista, Osprey Ridge and the Oak Trail course.  Tournament Chairman, Kevin Kasubinski, can't wait for the event to begin, stating "The Parent-Child is always a highlight of the year.  I know how much I enjoyed playing with my Father and Grandfather as I grew up and you can see the thrill on everyone's face when they are in their carts waiting to head out onto the course.  It's especially fun to see the 6-12 year olds playing on the Oak Trail Golf Course as well.  Playing golf with your family at Disney; it doesn't get much better than that!"

Disney's Palm and Magnolia courses played host to the former Children's Miracle Network Classic, a mainstay on the PGA Tour schedule for the past 30 years.  Previous winners of the event include Tiger Woods, Vijay Singh, Lucas Glover, and David Duval. Disney's Osprey Ridge Golf Course features dramatic golf holes that cut through stands of live oak, pine, palmetto, cypress and bay trees.  Recognized as a Certified Audubon Cooperative Wildlife Sanctuary, the surrounding vegetation and wetlands serve as a breathtaking backdrop fora championship course that blends all the majesty of nature with the superb design by Tom Fazio.  Golf Digest recognizes Disney's Osprey Ridge as one of the best in Florida, rating it 4 1/2 stars.  Lake Buena Vista, conceived by Joe Lee, features elevated bunkered greens that put a premium on accurate approach shots. This course will be sure to test the skills of players.  Children ages,13-18, 19-29 and 30 and older will rotate between these three courses for both rounds, while children 6-7, 8-9 and 10-12 will play both rounds on the 9-hole Oak Trail course.

Defending Champions from each of the six divisions are returning to reclaim their titles. Gary and Andrew Saft, Larry and Kyle Martin, David and Jeremy Perna, will be defending their titles in our 36-hole championship. Drew and Hunter Ditty, Charles and Grant Newman, Jon and Alex Veneziano will be defending their titles in our 18-hole championship.

Play will begin Saturday with an 8:00 AM shotgun start.
