Stasi Captures Another Title

September 8, 2013

Meghan Stasi of Oakland Park added another title to her long list of accomplishments with a one-stroke victory over Tara Connelly of Palm Beach Sunday in the Inaugural Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship at Lakewood Ranch Golf & Country Club.

Stasi had a one-stroke lead over Kim Keyer-Scott going into today’s final round.   Stasi, who was playing with a tweaked back, started off with a rough front nine, doubling and tripling holes 8 and 9.  However, some clutch birdies off-set the unfortunate holes 8 and 9.

Tara Connelly, who opened up with a 76, caught fire on day two making birdie after birdie. Tara even birdied hole 17 to come within one-shot, which put pressure on Stasi.  Nevertheless, Stasi was able to hold onto her lead to win the title by one with a 72-75-147.

Stasi, who was the 2012 Women's Player of the Year, has won four USGA Women’s Mid-Amateur Championships and numerous FSGA Championships.  The last two FSGA Championship titles were won with four-ball partner and 2013 Women’s Mid- Amateur runner-up Tara Connelly.  Stasi and Connelly’s next event will be the USGA Women’s State Team Matches, where they will represent the Sunshine State with fellow teammate Ericka Schneider.

Sarah Matin, of Winter Garden, who just won the Women’s Four-Ball with partner Brandi Rodriguez, came in third only two-strokes behind Stasi with a 76-73-149.

In the Middle Division First Flight, Nancy Smith took home the gross title with a 82-77-159, and Debbie Mook Sang won net honors with a 74-73-147.  Debbie Reese won both gross and net titles in the Middle Division Second Flight.  Yolanda Dwyer took the gross and net honors in the Forward Division First Flight, and in the Forward Division Second Flight, Elizabeth Leigh took the gross and net honors.

The next FSGA Women’s Championship is the Women’s Round Robin on September 21-22 at Mission Valley Country Club in Nokomis.
