Celebration Winter Series Kicks off 2014

January 7, 2014

Weather was the story as we kicked off the 2014 Tournament Schedule.  Celebration Golf Club played host to the first event of 2014 and the third of seven stops in the FSGA Winter Series on January 6-7.  The cool and breezy weather lead to challenging scoring conditions for both rounds.

In the 40-54 Age Division (Mid-Senior), Lloyd Fisher, of Dade City & Andy Spears, of Palm City posted 77 to tie for the lead.  Gary Sover, of Parrish, one back after an opening round 78, used a final round 74 to win the 40-54 age division by one stroke over Fisher & Spears. The 55-64 Age Division (Senior) saw Richard Kerper, of Safety Harbor fire an even-par 72 and jump out to the lead.  Keith Nagy, of Jacksonville Beach followed an opening round 75, by making 3 birdies en route 71 and a one-stroke victory over Kerper.

Bruce Scamehorn, of Winter Haven captured the 65 & Over Age Division (Super-Senior). His 3 under-par 69 was the only round under par on Monday in the field, coupled it with a final round 74 to a commanding 6 stroke victory over Carey Watson, of Plantation.   Scamehorn, notably was the only player in the field to finish under par for the 36 holes.

The Winter Series will stop next in Sarasota at TPC Prestancia on January 18th - 19th. The Winter Series events include seven competitions, six individual events and one four-ball event. There are three age divisions, Mid-Senior (40-54), Senior (55-64) and Super Senior (65 & over). The Winter Series is a great opportunity for golfers to compete in competitive events that normally may not because they do not live in Florida year round.
