Baxendale and Alexander Win at Mission Inn

February 9, 2014

Cold and rainy weather made for difficult conditions at the FJT 13-15 at Mission Inn Resort this weekend, with heavy rains flooding the course and canceling the first round of play. Even though the weather broke in time for play to resume Sunday morning, the conditions were tough and the course played long.

In the girls' division Morgan Baxendale, of Windermere, took home the hardware, carding a three-over par 75, making it her second win of the 2014 season. Baxendale started off strong birding the first hole, she continued on to make nine pars and four bogies until sinking another birdie putt on the 15th hole. Alexa Pano, of Lake Worth, and Laura Van Staden, of Winter Springs, tied for second place, both shooting 40 on the front and 42 on the back for a ten-over par 82.

In the boys' division Anthony Truong, of Winter Garden, and Spencer Alexander, of Port Charlotte, went into a sudden-death play-off on the 386 yard 18th after carding one-over par 73s. Hazards lining the right side of the par 4 make it a difficult hole, but both Truong and Alexander made par. The pair then headed back to the 18th tee to continue the play-off. Spencer sunk his 20 foot birdie putt to put the pressure on Truong who was unable to sink his 8 foot birdie putt, allowing Spencer to capture the title. David Gao, Spencer Slayden and Kyle Flexsenhar all tied for third with 3-over par 75s.
