Day 1 Complete at Super-Senior...sort of

April 8, 2014

The first day is complete at the Super-Senior Championship, however, only one age division completed the first round due to thunderstorms and rain in the afternoon.

65-69 Age Division

Playing at The Forest Country Club in Fort Myers, the 65-69 age division had morning tee times and played through very windy conditions until about noon, and then the rain came. Players had battled 20-30 mph winds with occasional moderate rainfall to for most of the day.

Jim Carley (pictured right) took advantage of his early tee time and shot an amazing bogey-free round with two birdies (70) to take a three shot lead over Sam Clunan (73). Jack Bracken stands four shots back at 74 and Carey Watson is five strokes back at 75.

The 65-69 age division will play round two Wednesday afternoon and then their final round on Thursday morning.

70-74 Age Division and 75 & Over Age Division

The other two age divisions were scheduled to play this afternoon and a few groups actually started on time before the first weather delay at 1:02. The Tournament Committee resumed play at 2:02 knowing that the players would be playing through light, and sometimes moderate rain, however, the threat of lightning was very minimal. Over the next hour the conditions worsened and lighting starting creeping towards the course. At 3:10 play was suspended due to heavy rain and lightning in the area. After considering all options and the Rules of Golf, the Tournament Committee deemed it best to cancel the round for the 70-74 and 75&over age divisions and play a fresh 18 holes Wednesday morning to determine the Champions. Playing 36 holes just wasn't an option as the course isn't available due to the other age division and member play.

Luckily the weather forecast for Wednesday and Thursday looks perfect!!!
