The 68th Florida Open Championship

The Bonita Bay Club, in Naples, will be the host of the Florida State Golf Association’s 68th Florida Open Championship, on July 18-20.

The Florida Open Championship is open to Florida Golf Professionals and Amateurs who are residents of Florida. The estimated purse for the 2014 championship is $75,000.

From June 23 – July 7, the FSGA will conduct 16 qualifying tournaments of 18-holes of stroke play for golfers trying to advance to the Florida Open Championship at The Bonita Bay Club. The $80.00 Qualifying Fee includes: Entry fee and course fee (not carts). Players have the option to walk or ride during the qualifying round. Cart fee is not included at qualifying sites and players will need to pay the professional shop if they wish to use a golf cart.

Individuals advancing to the Championship will play eighteen holes each on the Cypress course and the Bay Island course on Friday, July 18th and Saturday, July 19th. The field will be cut to the low sixty and ties after thirty-six holes. The final eighteen holes will be played on the Cypress course.

Defending Champion, Tyler McCumber, of Ponte Vedra Beach, won the 67th Florida Open Championship shooting a 69-68-67--204 at Quail Valley Golf Club & Orchid Island Golf & Beach Club in Vero Beach.

Started in 1942, The Florida Open Championship has produced past champions that include Willie Turnesa, Bob Murphy, Gary Koch, Bruce Fleisher, John Huston, Dudley Hart, and Bart Bryant.  This will be the fourth year the FSGA will be conducting this great championship.
