Daughan & Rymer In Championship Match

June 10, 2014

Gorgeous weather continued during Tuesday's quarter and semi-final matches at the 85th Women’s Amateur Championship.

During the morning’s quarterfinal matches, Emily Rymer of Orlando, once again ended her match early at 5 & 4 against Marika Liu, of Bradenton.  An upcoming senior at Florida Southern, Rymer continued her strong play into the afternoon's semi-final matches against  Sarasota local Jennifer Neville. However Neville did not go easily Tuesday afternoon. In her longest match yet of the week, Rymer eventually won 2 & 1 over Neville to advance to Wednesday's championship match.

Unlike Rymer, Charlotte Daughan, of Orlando, battled her way through match play all week. After Monday's extended match of 21 holes, Daughan again played all 18 against her quarterfinal opponent, Samantha Marks of Maitland.  Daughan headed into the 18th hole 1 up on Marks, and held strong to finish 2 up for the morning match.  Tuesday afternoon was a similar story for Daughan, a Rollins alumni and employee at the Golf Channel. In the semi-finals Daughan faced Katie Mitchell (pictured right with father, Mitch) of Fernandina Beach, and upcoming junior at Louisville. It was a constant battle back-and-forth between the two.  At the turn the match was all-square, but Mitchell birdied hole 11 to go back 1 up. Charlotte quickly turned it around with consistent pars to Mitchell's one bogey as they headed down hole 18 again all-square. The long par-5 18th allowed neither player to go for it in two, however both stuck the green with ten foot birdie opportunities. With her step-dad on the bag, Charlotte drained the birdie putt to force Mitchell to do the same to continue the match extra holes.  Mitchell narrowly missed, giving Daughan a 2 up win and advancing her into Wednesday's championship match.

Charlotte Daughan will face Emily Rymer in Wednesday morning’s championship match at 8:30 AM. As Daughan is a Rollins alumni, and Rymer a current Florida Southern student, historical rivals will meet in the final match at the 85th Women’s Amateur Championship.
