Rymer & Ashburn Win Women's Four-Ball

August 3, 2014

The team of Emily Rymer, of Orlando, and Ryan Ashburn, of Largo, captured the Women’s Four-Ball Championship at Bonita Bay Club, in Naples, on August 2-3.

After round one the Rymer and Ashburn duo held the lead by one stroke over Florida Junior Tour standouts Kendall Griffin, of Sebring, and Emma Bradley, of Naples. Four teams in the Championship Division each posted scores under par. Rymer and Ashburn had a bogie free round, carding three birdies on the front and four on the back while Griffin and Bradley finished strong draining four straight birdies in a row in their final five holes.

Sunday’s final round was like match play between the teams. Griffin and Bradley quickly birdied the second hole but Rymer and Ashburn answered back with a birdie on hole four. Both teams birdied the par-3 sixteenth hole that played at a short 131 yards.  Heading into the eighteenth hole Rymer and Ashburn were still up by one stroke. With both teams paring the final hole, they held onto the lead and claimed the Women’s Four-Ball Championship title.

Gross scores were close in both the Middle and Forward Divisions after the first round. Susan Rampelberg and Bronwyne Bruwer led the Middle Division First Flight by three strokes over Karen Moss and Lee Meyers, carding a two-under par 70. In the Forward Division First Flight with a four-over par 76, the pair of Nita Doyle and Nancy Marion led by one stroke over Cheryl Sadlon and Diane Dodge.  Rampelberg and Bruwer held onto their lead to claim the Middle Division First Flight with rounds of 70-76-146.  Doyle and Marion also kept their lead and took home first in the Forward Division First Flight with rounds of 76-76-152. Karen Moss and Lee Meyers finished first net in the Middle Division First Flight, while Kimberly Byle and Chris Daywalt finished first in the Forward Division First Flight.
In the Middle Division Second Flight, Kerstin Koenig and Jennie Taylor finished first gross while Michele Klinowski and Mary Marshall finished first net. In the Forward Division Second flight Victoria Goitz and Gilda Perez finished first gross while Cindi DeBrino and Patricia Gift finished first net.

The Florida State Women’s Four-Ball Championship was held at Bonita Bay Club in the heart of Naples. The tournament was 36 holes of gross Four-Ball Stroke Play and consisted of a Championship, Middle and Forward Division. The Middle and Forward Divisions competed for both gross and net while the Championship Division was gross only.
