Floridians top Global Golf Post All-Am Teams

Ten familiar faces from FSGA competitions were honored on the Global Golf Post All-Amateur Team presented by Polo Ralph Lauren in the December 1st Edition of Global Golf Post. The 10 combined for 8 State Championships and 12 USGA appearances in 2014. For the complete list, click here.

Men

Jon Veneziano - Second Team Mid-Amateur

In FSGA competition, Veneziano, the 2013 FSGA Player of the Year, teamed up with 2013 Senior Player of the Year, Doug Lacrosse, to capture the Senior/Mid-Amateur Four-Ball Championship in March. He posted a T17 Finish at both the Mid-Amateur Stroke Play and Amateur Championships, and T4 in the Amateur Public Links Championship. He advanced to the Round of 32 at the Amateur Match Play and Mid-Amateur Championships. In USGA competitions, Jon qualified for both the US Public Links and US Mid-Amateur. He advanced to the round of 16 in the collegiate filled Public Links, but failed to advance to match play at theMid-Amateur.  Veneziano also posted a top 20 finish at the Coleman Invitational at Seminole Golf Club. Jon represented Team Florida at the USGA State Team at French Lick Resort in Indiana in September for a fourth time, where they finished runner-up.

Peter Wegmann - Honorable Mention Senior

In FSGA competitions, Wegmann posted top 20 finishes in both the Senior Amateur and Senior Open. Peter also made the cut at the Amateur Championship. A solo 4th place finish in the Mid-Amateur Stroke Play was the highlight of his FSGA season. He made the most of his second consecutive trip to the U.S. Senior Amateur Championship by advancing to the Quarterfinals. Wegmann also gathered Senior Player of the Year honors with the Palm Beach County Golf Association.

Pete Williams - Honorable Mention Senior

Pete Williams started off 2014 shaky by anyone's standards...fortunately that only lasted two holes. After double-bogeys on holes one and two at the Senior Amateur Championship, Williams put on a clinic, and would go on to capture the Senior Amateur by six strokes. Williams also captured the Senior Match Play Championship after earning Medalist honors and running through a very strong match play bracket. Pete qualified for his second U.S. Senior Open Championship, posted a top 20 in the Florida Senior Open and finished T3 in the Mid-Senior Championship. Williams ran away with the points race to earn FSGA 2014 Senior Player of the Year honors.

Rick Woulfe - Honorable Mention Senior

Arguably one of the steadiest Senior players in the country over the past decade, Rick Woulfe put together another impressive season. Although he did not hoist an individual title in 2014, Woulfe did partner with Gordon Marshall to win the Senior Four-Ball Championship.  Rick finished T5 in the Senior Amateur Championship, advanced the the quarterfinals of both the Senior Match Play & Mid-Amateur Championships. Woulfe also qualified for the U.S. Senior Amateur Championship. Outside of the FSGA, Rick won the Society of Seniors Championship at Quail Ridge Country Club and the Crane Cup at The Floridian just 10 days apart in November.

Women

Meghan Stasi - First Team Women’s Mid-Amateur

One of the most decorated Women's Amateur Players, Meghan Stasi continued to rack up the accolades in 2014. Stasi won the storied Harder Hall Invitational in January. She finished 9th in the South Atlantic Amateur (SALLY), was a quarterfinalist in the Ione Jones/Dorthy Championship and made it to the Round of 32 at the Florida Women's Amateur Championship. Meghan defended titles at both the Women's International Four-Ball with partner Tara Connelly and the Florida Women's Mid-Amateur Championship. Meghan qualified for the U.S. Women's Amateur and was a semifinalist at the U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur. Stasi earned FSGA 2014 Women's Player of the Year honors for the 5th consecutive year.

Tara Joy-Connelly - First Team Women’s Mid-Amateur

Tara partnered with Meghan Stasi to defend their title at the Women's International Four-Ball. She placed 3rd in the Florida Women's Mid-Amateur Championship. At the Florida Women's Amateur, Tara would share medalist honors and advance to the quarterfinals. Connelly had a runner-up showing at the Florida Women's Stroke Play Championship, and capped the year by advancing to the semifinals of the U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur. Tara also finished top 10 in the International Mid-Amateur.

Charlotte Daughan - First Team Women’s Mid-Amateur

Charlotte would finish 4th in the Women's International Four-Ball with partner Sarah Matin. Daughan also had a 4th place finish behind Meghan Stasi at the Florida Women's Mid-Amateur. Her best performance of the season would come in a runner-up finish at the Florida Women's Amateur. Daughan qualified for the U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur and advanced to the round of 32.

Therese Quinn - Honorable Mention Women’s Mid-Amateur

Therese finished T21 in the SALLY and posted a top 10 at the Women's International Four-Ball. She posted a T3 finish at the Florida Women's Senior. Quinn was tied with Meghan Stasi after the opening round of the Florida Women's Mid-Amatuer and went on to a runner-up finish. Therese advanced to the Round of 64 at the U.S. Women's Mid-Amatuer.

Mary Jane Hiestand - Honorable Mention Women’s Senior

Mary Jane advanced to the round of 32 at the Ione Jones/Doherty Senior Championship, finished3rd at the Women's International Four-Ball and posted a top 10 finish at the Florida Women's Mid-Amateur. Mary Jane defended her Florida Women's Senior Championship. Hiestand was the runner-up at the Women's Senior North & South Championship at Pinehurst Resort and advanced to the round of 32 at the U.S. Senior Women's Amateur. Mary Jane also won the FSGA 2014 Senior Women's Player of the Year points race for the 5th consecutive season.

Lin McMillan - Honorable Mention Women’s Senior

McMillan advanced to the round of 16 at the Ione Jones/Doherty Senior Championship, was the runner-up at the Florida Women's Senior, and finished T7 in the Florida Women's Mid-Amateur. Lin also posted a T8 fininsh at the Women's Senior North & South Championship, a T3 at the Women's Senior Eastern Championship and advanced to the round of 64 at the US Senior Women's Amateur.
