Barber and Zhou Best at Old Corkscrew

May 4, 2015

The Florida Junior Tour 16-18 division somehow survived the sunny and high 70’s weekend to crown two first time winners.  Hella Zhou, Lake Mary, and Garrett Barber, West Palm Beach, posted strong round two scores to take their respective divisions’ titles.

Samuel Uhland was the star of round one, posting the only under par round of the day with a 71.  His round was highlighted by a 32 on the back nine. The girls’ division saw Sarah Noonan set the pace with a two-over-par, 74.

Similar to round one, there was only one under-par round, but this time it was fired by Garrett Barber.  After a 75 on the first day, he returned with a sterling 67.  Barber was nearly flawless on the day, with just a lone bogey on the difficult par 5, 15th, but bounced back impressively to birdie two of the three closing holes.  Hella Zhou was able to capture the title with a 73 on the day to combine with her 76 on day one for a total of five-over-par, 149.  She carded two birdies in the second round, with the second coming on the 36th hole of her tournament.

Siblings from Jacksonville, Samuel and Emily Uhland, each took home second place finishes.  Third place for the boys was earned by Mark Nauert thanks to a 72 on Sunday.  Finishing in third for the girls was Emily Black (78-75-153).

Finally, four-time FJT winner Terese Romeo finished the weekend with a top five finish, but will be heading out to Oregon to compete in the inaugural U.S. Women’s Four-Ball Championship at Bandon Dunes with fellow FJT champion, Mary Janiga.

Thank you to Old Corkscrew Golf Club and its members for giving up its immensely challenging and well-groomed course for the weekend.
