115th U.S Open Sectional Field Set

May 29, 2015

Seventy professional and amateur golfers will attempt to qualify for the 115th United States Open Championship, on June 8th, at The Bears Club in Jupiter.

The field of seventy is highlighted by Luke Donald, of England. Donald made history in 2011 by becoming the first player ever to finish number 1 on both the PGA TOUR and European Tour money lists in the same season, and won Player of the Year honors on both Tours. This year’s field also features two players ranked inside the top 40 of The Men’s World Amateur Golf Rankings and they happen to both be past Florida State Amateur Champions. The 96th State Amateur Champion, Sam Horsfield of England, is currently ranked 25th in the world, as the 97th State Amateur Champion, Gabriel Lench, of Lake Mary, is ranked 37th.

The remainder of the field includes a wide variety of talent, from top 100 world ranked amateurs to multiple time PGA Tour Champions. Some notable players include: the 43rd ranked amateur in the world, Jack Maguire, of Saint Petersburg, 2014 Boys’ Junior Champion, John Coultas, of Valrico, 2012 Junior Match Play Champion, Jake Kevorkian, of Saint Petersburg, and 2014 Four-Ball Champion, Ryan Orr, of Belleair. Three time PGA Tour Champion, Chris DiMarco, of Longwood, will also attempt to qualify at The Bears Club. His best U.S. Open finish is a tie for ninth in 2004 at Shinnecock Hills.

The Bears Club is nestled among 369 sandy acres near the Atlantic Ocean, 18-time major champion (four U.S. Open titles) Jack Nicklaus transformed the native environment into a championship layout that features 102 strategically placed bunkers, many of which are steeply flashed. The design were inspired by the bunkers at Royal Melbourne Golf Club in Australia, which Nicklaus visited when he captained the 1998 United States Presidents Cup Team. A collection of medium-to-large greens demand precision, as many of the complexes are rounded off at the edges and feed into hollows and chipping areas.

The United States Open Championship will be conducted at Chambers Bay, in University Place, Washington on June 18-21. Click here for more information regarding the championship.

Spectators and media are welcome to watch the golfers compete at The Bears Club for a chance to compete in the U.S. Open.
