Dachisen Leads State Amateur Championship

Participants play 18 holes each at The Club at TwinEagles and Bonita Bay East Cypress courses in Naples on June 17-18 with the final 36 holes of the Championship played at TwinEagles this weekend, June 19-20.

Dachisen, of Wesley Chapel, fired a 4-under par 68 at Bonita Bay East Cypress course. He recorded a 1-under par 35 on the front nine making birdie on hole #8 and went three under on the back nine with birdies on 12, 15 and 17. Dachisen finished second in last year’s Mid-Amateur Championship. Three players shot 3-under par 69 at the Cypress course including the 2003 Mid-Senior Champion, Paul Melson, of Plantation. Also shooting 69 were Garrett Runion, of Orlando, and Joshua Anderson, of Lake Alford. The low round of the day at TwinEagles was a 2-under par 70 from Jacob Davis, of Deland, Stefan Wistorf, of Bradenton, and Chris Colli, of Tampa. Rick Woulfe, of Fort Lauderdale, RJ Nakashian, from Palm Beach Gardens, and Jack Lander, of Juno Beach, recorded a 70 at the Cypress course. In the first round, 23 players finished at par or better.

Defending Champion, Richard Maddox, of Panama City, shot 39-34—73 in the first round. Maddox was paired with last year’s State Junior Champion Joong Jo and the 2004 State Senior Champion Bruce Scamehorn, who each shot 79.

After participants play 18 holes each at The Club at TwinEagles and Bonita Bay EastCypress course, the field will be cut to the low 70 and ties. The final 36 holes of the Championship will be played at TwinEagles on June 19-20. Designed by Jack Nicklaus and his son Jack, TwinEagles is host to the Champions Tour ACE Group Classic as well as last year's State Four-Ball Championship and this year's Southeast Challenge Cup Matches.

Started in 1914, the FSGA State Amateur is the oldest continuous sporting event in the state as well as the largest amateur event in Florida.Past Amateur champions include Bob Murphy, Jerry Pate, Buddy Alexander, and PGA Tour players David Peoples, Chris Couch, and Barry Cheesman.
