Ponte Vedra Inn & Club Wins Club Team Championship

Held at the renowned King & Bear and Slammer & Squire courses at the World Golf Village, the Ponte Vedra Inn & Club team of Steve Horner, Scot Regner, Worth Calfee and Ken Moody scored a two-day total of 427. Going into the second day in second place with a 215 in the first round, Ponte Vedra finished the second round with a total of 212, four under par. Steve Horner shot a three under par 69 to lead the Ponte Vedra team. As a team, Horner says, “ We were very relaxed and confident because we knew the skills levels of each other.”

Tied for second, The Legacy Club at Alaqua Lakes and the Redlands Golf and Country Club finished eleven strokes behind the leader with a 438. Defending Champions, Interlachen Country Club finished tied for 11th with three other clubs with a two-day total of 449. Going into the second day, TPC at Sawgrass was leading the field and finished in fourth with a two-day total of 440.

The Club Team Championship consisted of 41 teams from across the state representing their golf club. Teams of four played 36 holes of stroke play, 18 holes each at Slammer & Squire and King & Bear. The total of the low three of the four gross scores counted after each round. The Club Team Championship is the third championship on the Florida State Golf Association’s competitions schedule.

Organized in 1913, the Florida State Golf Association is a not-for-profit organization that governs amateur golf in the state of Florida. In addition to conducting 20 championships for amateur golfers in the state, the FSGA is responsible for 39 qualifying tournament for USGA National Championships. The FSGA also maintains the USGA Handicap System, performs course ratings throughout the Florida and assists in junior programs and scholarships.
