Sawyer Shaw and Alessandra Kutz battled tough conditions to capture their respective titles at the Florida Junior Tour’s (FJT) event at Sandridge Golf Club in Vero Beach, December 19-20.
Sawyer Shaw, of West Palm Beach, started the event with a four-over par 76, battling through sustained winds of over 25 mph. Shaw carded the only under par round of the tournament for the boys division with a final round one under par 71, for a tournament total of 3-over par 147 total, giving Shaw a three stroke victory. Shaw’s incredible season continued Sunday by winning his fourth event in a row. Shaw has yet to finish outside the top four in his first eight events of the season. Anthony Scaolapio, of Ponte Vedra Beach, grabbed second place honors by firing a final round two over par 74, for a tournament total of 150. Wade Chen, of Orlando finished in third place with a tournament total of 153.
Alessandra Kutz, of Sanford, jumped to an early lead in the Girls Division, shooting a 78 in the first round. In the final round Kutz fired a three under par 69, for the round of the tournament and a dominating thirteen stroke victory. This is Kutz’s first career FJT victory. Finishing tied for second, with rounds of 83-77, was Ashley Holder, of Orlando and Lucy Robson, of Stuart with rounds of 81-79 and a tournament total of 160.
