Abell and Nakashian Win in the South

David Abell and RJ Nakashian fired a final round 67 at the Lost Tree Club, giving them a three-stroke victory in the South Championship

In the South Championship, David Abell, of Jupiter, and RJ Nakashian, of Palm Beach Gardens, got off to a strong start in the first round firing a 12 under par 60. Abell and Nakashian finished strong in the final round carding a 5 under par 67 for a tournament total of 17 under par 127. This is Abell’s fourth state championship and his first in over 30 years since winning the Boys Junior Championship back-to-back-to-back from 1972-1974. Thomas Midtgaard, of Fort Myers, and Pete Williams, of Juno Beach, secured second place honors firing back to back 65’s for a tournament total of 14 under par 130.

Lost Tree opened in 1960 with Mark Mahannah as the original course architect. Jack Nicklaus renovated the course in 2002.

ELIGIBILITY:  Must be age 40 or older as of September 12, 2009, and both entrants must be members of the FSGA.

ENTRY FEE:  $310 ($330 - members who do not have an active FSGA/GHIN Handicap).

CHAMPIONSHIP:  36 holes of four-ball stroke play.  The lowest team score for 36 holes will be the Champion. If necessary, there will be a hole by hole play-off to determine the champion. It is the player’s responsibility to be present for any play-off.

FLIGHTS:  After 18 holes. The number of flights will be based on the number of teams and/or the range of scores.

COURSE:  Lost Tree Golf Club, North Palm Beach

CARTS:  Carts are included for all competitive rounds. Players are responsible for practice round fees.

SPECTATORS AND CADDIES: Spectators and caddies are always welcome at FSGA Championships. Only players are allowed to ride in carts.  If a player employs a caddie, the caddie MUST walk and the player’s clubs must remain on the golf cart.

CONDITIONS; SCHEDULES – The FSGA Championships Committee/on-site Rules Committee reserves the right to alter any of the conditions, provisions and/or schedules.  The decision of the Championships Committee/on-site Rules Committee in any matter will be final.

COURSE SET-UP:  The golf course will be set-up approximately 6600-6800 yards.

REGISTRATION TABLE: There will be a registration table set up in front of the pro shop. All contestants are requested to check in.

PRACTICE ROUND:  Practice rounds are available one week prior to the championship.  Practice rounds may be played after 12:00 PM on the weekend.  The price for your practice round is $30.00 + tax.  Please call (561) 626-1400 to arrange your practice round.  The proper place to practice your golf swing is on the driving range, hitting multiple shots on the course is unacceptable.

PAYMENT:  Lost Tree Golf Club will accept cash only for method of payment.

SCORE CARDS: Only one of the partners per team need sign the score card and each score to count must be individually identifiable.  See Rule 31–3.

DEFENDING CHAMPIONS:  Lee Booker and K C Fox posted a 65-63--128 for the South title at Kensington Golf & Country Club.
