Junior Team Champions Crowned

Fifty-eight junior teams representing their junior programs competed this weekend in the 2013 Florida State Junior Team Championship at Sandridge Golf Club in Vero Beach.

In the Boy's 16-18 division, the Emerald Coast Junior Golf Association claimed their title by one stroke with a team total of 143-150--293. After the first round the Emerald Coast JGA were tied with Palm Beach County JGA, but came out on top beating the Eagle JGA A-team by one stroke. Christian Bosso fired a 72-78--150 six-over par, while Jason Rogers posted a 71-72--143 one-under par to help claim their team's victory. Davis Bowyer shot a two round total of 75-79--154.

Capturing the Girl's 16-18 division, the Junior Golf Association of Broward County secured their win by one stroke with a tournament total of 312. Each of the three players contributed to the team's win, Claire Fitzgerald fired a 36-hole total of 85-79--164, Marisa Messana shot a consistent 74-77-151, and Taylor Moody posted a 82-85--167.

In the Boy's 13-15 division, Emerald Coast JGT defeated the JGA of Broward County in a playoff on the par 5 18th hole to capture the title. All three players from each team played the hole, counting the two lowest scores. The "B" and "C" players from each team tied with two pars and two bogies. The "A" players then followed behind them. Brock Ochsenreiter of Emerald Coast JGT pulled his drive left but got a lucky bounce back into the fairway. Ochsenreiter then laid up, hit his third shot to 15 feet and drained his birdie putt to claim the title with a team total of 146-151--297. Brock Ochsenreiter, Kevin Choe and Tyler Cohen represented the winning team.

In the Girl's 13-15 division Kendall Griffin, Megan Crews and Morgan Baxendale of Sertoma JGT captured their title with a team total of 147-148--295. Kendall Griffin fired an impressive and tournament low of six-under par 67-71--138. The Sertoma JGT won by eight strokes over SendMeAQuote.com Tour.

Teams of three, representing their junior programs, competed in 36-holes of stroke play with the total of the low two of the three gross scores counting for each round. This event is open to junior programs that provide organized tournaments, instruction or clinics which are open to all junior golfers in the community. There are four divisions; boys 16-18, boys13-15, girls 16-18 and girls 13-15. Competitors played on Sandridge Golf Club’s Dunes and Lakes Courses.

The Junior Team Championship is an unique and exciting Championship open to junior programs around the state of Florida.  Junior golfers get the chance to play in a team environment, something that is not very common in golf.

Eligibility

Open to junior programs that provide organized tournaments, instruction, or clinics that are open to all junior golfers in your community. National or statewide tours are not allowed to participate. Junior programs may select the individuals they send to the Team Championship by any criteria they select, however all three players must be directly involved with the local program listed on the entry form.Only one team ("A" team) from each program will be accepted per division prior to the close of entries. Additional teams ("B", and "C") will be accepted on a space available basis after the entry deadline based on order of receipt of entry.

"B" and "C" team entries should be submitted prior to the entry deadline, however, they will only be accepted (entered into the tournament) on a space available basis by order of receipt.

Entry Fee

$180 per team ($60 per person). Late entries will be accepted subject to a $10 late entry fee should the entrant gain acceptance into the field.

Championship Format

36 holes of stroke play.  Maximum of three players per team. Total of the low two scores per round of the three gross scores for each team will count. 

Two courses will be utilized.  Players will play the same course both days.

Boys 16-18 Division - Dunes Course
Girls 16-18 Division - Dunes Course

Boys 13-15 Division - Lakes Course
Girls 13-15 Division - Lakes Course

Course assignments are subject to change pending number of entries received in each division.

Championship Field Size

60 teams; 120 players

Course Length

Boys 16-18 will play approximately 6,600-6,800 yards
Girls 16-18 will play approximately  5,500-5,700 yards
Boys 13-15 will play approximately 6,300-6,400 yards (maximum on Lakes Course is 6,100)
Girls 13-15 will play approximately  5,300-5,500 yards

Practice Rounds

Practice rounds are available one week prior to the Championship on a space available basis at either golf course.  Practice rounds are restricted to after 12:00 PM on weekends and holidays. The price for a practice round is $30.00 + tax. To schedule your practice round call (772) 770-5000.

Carts

All players must walk and carry their own clubs (Pull carts permitted). Use of a caddie is not authorized. Each program will be given one cart free of charge, but must follow the published policy (available on site). Additional carts may be rented for $25 per cart per day on a first-come, first-served basis.

Defending Champions

The Palm Beach County Junior Golf Association won the boys 16-18 age division while the Greater Tampa Junior Golf Association took the girls 16-18 age division. The Emerald Coast Junior Golf tour won the boys 13-15 age division as the Gold Coast Junior Golf Foundation claimed the top spot in the girls 13-15 age division at Orange Lake.

Coaches

Each team is allowed ONE Coach.  Only that coach may give advice after the completion of a hole and before the start of the next hole.  Each Coach MUST register themselves as the team coach at the registration table to receive their team packet.

Coaches/Spectator Carts

Each junior program will receive one cart free of charge for each day of competition to be used by a Coach.  Other coaches and spectators may rent additional carts for $25 plus tax each day.  Carts are available on a first-come, first-served basis. The FSGA requests these carts be used to assist in evacuation of players if required.

Conditions; Schedules

The FSGA Championships Committee/on-site Rules Committee reserves the right to alter any of the conditions, provisions and/or schedules.  The decision of the Championships Committee/on-site Rules Committee in any matter will be final.

Registration

There will be a registration table located outside the Golf Shop. All players and coaches are expected to register before the first round. 

Awards

Crystal trophies will be awarded to each member and the coach of the winning team. Also, each member of the winning teams, and individual champions, will receive three exemptions to the Florida Junior Tour.

Deadline

Junior Programs may, through their Junior Program Coordinator, reserve a spot (with a fully-paid entry) without team member's names prior to the closing date.
