Southern Dunes Golf & Country Club - Haines City

September 24-25, 2016

Ryan Hicks, of Clearwater, fired a round one three under-par, 69 to take the early lead in the boys’ division by one stroke. Eric Yiu and Jeffrey Cunningham tied for second place with two under-par 70’s. Tied for fourth were Genki Sadato and Roberto Nieve with a round one 71. In the girls’ division, Brittany Shin, of Cape Coral, stood in first place with a two under-par 70 in round one. One stroke behind sat Emma Zhao, of Windermere, with a one under-par 71. Katie Yoo and Tanya Eathakotti tied for third with an even par score.

After posting a first round 73, Jonathan Yaun came from behind to win by one stroke! Yaun closed his final round with an impressive 32 due to an eagle on hole number 12 and a birdie on hole number 18 to win. West Palm Beach resident, Jeffrey Cunningham, had a short putt on the final hole to force a play-off with Yaun but missed to finish tied for second with a final round 71. Hicks fell from first place with an even par second round to tie Cunningham in second place with a 141 total. The highlight of the day came from Johnny Tucker, of Jacksonville, who aced number three, for his first hole-in-one ever, on his way to a bogey-free 68. Tucker tied Leo (Shiryu) Oyo and Eric (Chun Yin) Yiu for fourth place with a 143 total. Yaun, of Minneola, earned his first FSGA victory with a four under-par two round total of 140 (73-67).

Caroline Hwang, of Orlando, posted a great second round to come back and capture first place in the girls’ division. Hwang had rounds of 73-69--142 (-2) to win by three strokes over Brittany Shin. Shin fell from the top after a second round 75 to finish with a 145 tournament total. Emma Zhao, Tanya Eathakotti, and Jenny Kim tied for third place with a 147 total. This is Hwang’s second FJT win in 2016 after winning at River Wilderness G&CC in January.

The FJT 16-18 division will meet the 13-15 division at Rocky Bayou Country Club, located in Niceville, October 1-2 for the next stop on the schedule!
