Kozan and Lamoureux Earn Trophies in Vero

Vero Beach Country Club, located in the heart of Vero Beach, presented challenges that the players conquered with seven boys posting second round under par scores, and a first time win for Alyssa Lamoureux in the girls division.

Andrew Kozan, from Palm Beach Gardens, earns his second FJT win this year firing a two round total of 2-under par 142. Alyssa Lamoureux, a resident of Seminole, is guaranteed a spot in the Tour Championship after her two consistent scores of 3-over par 75, awarding her with her first FJT win this weekend.

Although battling a thirty minute rain delay on Saturday, a score of 72 lead the field in both the girls’ and boys’ division after round one. Manuel Girona, of Windermere, started the tournament strong with an even par round of 72, leading the event by one. Erika Smith, of Orlando, lead the girls division by three strokes after also shooting an even par 72 in round one.

After a round one score of 74, Kozan played lights out in round two by carding an eagle on hole 15 and birdies on holes 8, 10, 11, 14, and 16. Kozan finished with a tournament low score of 68, two round total of 142, winning by 2 strokes. Girona fell out of contention with his second round 77 moving him to tie for eighth place with Carter Dalili.  Brandon Mancheno and Robert Eisch both shot two and one- under consecutively in round two to finish tied for second with a total of 144.

In the girls’ division Erika Smith started the tournament three shots ahead of Alyssa Lamoreux but fell to second place after firing a second round score of 81. Consistency was Lamoreux’s forte this weekend with a steady score of 75 for both rounds. Lamoreux’s total of 150 won the tournament by three strokes over Smith’s 153 total. Three girls, Sarah Noona, Paige Lee Garris, and Alexa Pano, tied for third place with a total of 157.

Next weekend, September 27-28, the FJT (16-18 Age Division) is back in action at Banyan Country Club in West Palm Beach.

Vero Beach Country Club was founded in 1924 and is a premier location to gather some of the finest junior golfers in Florida. Over the last twenty years, Vero Beach Country Club has made some significant golf course enhancements including becoming one of the first clubs in the United States to be completely converted to salt-tolerant Paspalum grass, adding fairway and green contouring to increase variety and improve drainage.  Each hole has its own distinct character and can be challenged with an ever-changing range of risk/reward strategies involving consideration of wind, doglegs, strategically placed bunkers, oak and palm trees, lakes and perimeter canals. The result is a course of unusual variety that avoids the hole-by-hole similarity of many Florida courses.
