Women's Four-Ball Championship

The Club at River Wilderness - Parrish

August 1-2, 2015

Team Vergara & Ferre Prevail

The team of Nancy Vergara, of Key Biscayne, and Nicole Ferre, of Weston, battled through strong competition and a wet golf course to be crowned Women’s Four-Ball Champions at River Wilderness Golf & Country Club, in Parrish, August 1-2.

After a week of heavy rain it was a miracle that round one was able to begin and be completed on Saturday. Champions, Ferre and Vergara, stated that although the golf course conditions were wet, everyone had to play the same golf course and face the same challenges. The luck did not continue into Sunday’s round, round two, and due to unplayable course conditions after a rainstorm the Championship was cut to 18 holes. Round one scores would be used to determine the Women’s Four-Ball Champions!

The team of Nicole Ferre and Nancy Vergara did not let the wet golf course get in the way of shooting a six-under par 66 to capture the Championship division. Ferre and Vergara had experience playing as a team on the golf team at Barry University. The two friends stated that being teammates in college gave them “confidence due to knowing each other’s games”. Following close behind tied for second place, with a first round score of 68, were the teams of Megan Pollenz and Katie Veale, Madison Glennie and Haydyn Gibson, and Belinda George and Kelly Aylwin. Teammates Alison Reifers and Lynda Case finished in fifth place alone after a score of one-under par, 71.

In the Middle Division, the team of Susie Fonde, of Jacksonville, and Mary Hanyak, of Wellington, won by two strokes after a score of one-over par, 73. Tied for second place were teams of Sisi Hedges and Debbie MookSang and Sandy Frambes and Amy Palladino.  Teammates Mourine White and Marianne Meola were victorious in the Forward Division. White, of Naples, and Meola, of Estero, won by two strokes over the team of Kay Waltman and Pegy Butts who finished in second place with a score of 81.

Breaking Ties

Championship Division - The overall Champion will be the team from the Championship Division with the lowest 36-hole total score.  In the event of a tie for first place in the Championship Division there will be a hole-by-hole sudden death playoff on a hole designated by the Committee to determine the championship team.

Other Divisions - Ties for first place gross and first place net in each flight of the Middle and Forward Divisions will be broken by a modified USGA tie break method.  The final day 18 hole respective score, whether gross or net, will be used to determine the first place gross or net team.  (If there is still a tie, the final 9 holes of the last day (holes #10-18) will be used to determine the winner.  If there is still a tie, the final 6 holes are used; then if needed the final 3 holes; then the final hole; then by coin flip).
