Moody Wins The Mid-Senior Championship

Hurricane Isaac Shortens The Mid-Senior Championship to 36-Holes.

Ken Moody prevailed in a playoff to win the Florida State Mid-Senior Championship at the Longboat Key Club in Longboat Key. The Championship was shortened to a 36-hole event due to Hurricane Isaac.

Ken Moody, of Ponte Vedra Beach, recorded a final round of even par 72 for a tournament total of one-under par 143 to find himself tied with Glenn Przybylski, of Frankfort, IL, after 36-holes of play. Przybylski fired a first round of two-under par 70 to go along with his final round of one-over par 73.  The duo would head for a sudden death playoff to determine the Champion. The sudden-death playoff would only go one hole with Moody making a par to capture the title.  This is Moody’s first State Championship.  Doug Snoap, of Apopka, and R J Nakashian, of Palm Beach Gardens, finished tied for third place with a tournament total of even par 144.  John Wegmann, of Southwest Ranches, fired the low round of the Championship on Saturday with a four-under par 68 to finish tied for fifth place.

To be eligible for the Mid-Senior Championship, players must be 40 years of age or older. Each player played 18-holes each on the Harborside and Islandside courses at the beautiful Longboat Key Club.

The challenging Harbourside and Islandside golf courses of Longboat Key Club have consistently been rated among the country's finest.

The Islandside Course, known as the "watery challenge," is a 6,792 yard course that borders the Gulf of Mexico with water hazards coming into play on all 18 holes. Tifdwarf grass on the greens ensures smooth putting surfaces. More than 5,000 palm trees, and pink and white blooming oleander line the fairways and canals, making Islandside one of Florida's most beautiful courses.

The Harbourside course presents a uniquely different golf experience from the Islandside course. This challenging 27-hole layout features of 3 nine-hole courses designed by Willard Byrd. The Mid-Senior Championship will be conducted on the Red course, 3,323 yards, and the Blue course, 3,386 yards. Bordering Sarasota Bay, the Harbourside course plays through stands of oak, sabal palm, fiddleleaf palm, Washingtonian palm, fig, palmetto and southern pine. Tree-lined fairways and swirling winds put a premium on shot-making and course strategy.
