Women's Mid-Amateur Championship

Indian River Club - Vero Beach

May 3-4, 2014

Meghan Stasi, of Oakland Park, added yet another victory to her 2014 season at the Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship at Indian River Club in Vero Beach, May 3-4, 2014.

Stasi was co-leader with Therese Quinn, of Jacksonville, who also fired a one-under-par 71 in the Championship’s first round.  Both competitors, however, had to overcome a long wait to finish their first round. Saturday’s inclement weather suspended play for Round One, causing approximately 60 percent of the field to finish early Sunday morning before the final round.

With her dad on the bag, Stasi was able to take advantage of the gorgeous conditions and go under par again with a round of 71 in Sunday’s final round.  With six birdies in her first round, she followed it with three birdies and an eagle chip-in on hole 15 during the final round.  Her consistent iron play allowed her to only miss three greens in the two days.  The final pairings seemed like a match between Stasi and Quinn.  Quinn fought hard, firing a final round 73 to only end up two back of Stasi, with a 71-73-144.

Tara Connelly, of Palm Beach Gardens, finished in third with rounds of 73-76-149.  Charlotte Daughan, of Orlando, fired consistent rounds of 75-75 for a two-day total of 150.

Stasi, who was the 2013 Women's Player of the Year, has won four USGA Women’s Mid-Amateur Championships and numerous FSGA Championships.  She recently won the 2014 Women’s International Four-Ball Championship with partner and good friend Tara Connelly, of Palm Beach Gardens.  Next on her schedule is the US Women’s Open Sectional Qualifier at the end of the month.

Generally, divisions of more than 10 individuals will be flighted, however the Committee reserves the right to flight based on the number of individuals and/or the range of individual handicaps or scores.

Breaking Ties

Championship Division(s) - The overall Champion will be the individual from the Championship Division with the lowest 36-hole total score.  In the event of a tie for first place in the Championship Division there will be a hole-by-hole sudden death playoff on a hole designated by the Committee to determine the champion.

Other Divisions - Ties for first place gross and first place net in each flight of the Middle and Forward Divisions will be broken by a modified USGA tie break method.  The final day 18 hole respective score, whether gross or net, will be used to determine the first place gross or net individual.  (If there is still a tie, the final 9 holes of the last day (holes #10-18) will be used to determine the winner.  If there is still a tie, the final 6 holes are used; then if needed the final 3 holes; then the final hole; then by coin flip).

Handicap Requirements

The valid USGA Handicap Indexes used will be from the April 15, 2014 revision.  Each player must have a valid USGA Handicap Index no higher than 34.0.

Defending Mid-Amateur Champion

Meghan Stasi of Oakland Park added another title to her long list of accomplishments with a one-stroke victory over Tara Connelly of Palm Beach Sunday in the Inaugural Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship at Lakewood Ranch Golf & Country Club.  Stasi had a one-stroke lead over Kim Keyer-Scott going into today’s final round.   Stasi, who was playing with a tweaked back, started off with a rough front nine, doubling and tripling holes 8 and 9.  However, some clutch birdies off-set the unfortunate holes 8 and 9 and she closed the deal winning the first Women's Mid-Amateur Championship.
