Bell & Dean Win Two-Man Shoot-Out

Don Bell and Roger Dean erased a two stroke deficit to capture the 2013 Two-Man Shoot-Out held at Black Diamond Ranch, in Lecanto, on May 18-19.

Don Bell, of Port Orange, and Roger Dean, of Ormond Beach, posted a tournament total of 16-under par 200 to cruise to a three stroke victory. In the first round of modified alternate shot on the Highlands/Ranch Course, the pair posted a two-under par round of 70, to trail the leaders by just one stroke. The second round was a scramble format also played on the Highlands/Ranch Course where Bell and Dean continued to stay hot, posting a nine-under par 63. With a two round total of 133, the duo would trail past State Amateur Champion, Brad Quiri, of Oldsmar, and James Kemp, of Pensacola, after their rounds of 70-61. Playing a Four-Ball format in the final round on the Quarry Course, Bell and Dean went on to fire a five-under par 67 to secure their first Two-Man Shoot-Out crown.
 
The team of James Kemp and Brad Quiri finished alone in second place with a tournament total of 13-under par 203.  The team from Lynn Haven consisting of Rob Maddox and Christian McCarter and the duo from Tampa, Andy and Darin Green finished tied for third place with a tournament total of 11-under par 205.

The field of 52 teams played three competitive rounds consisting of modified alternate shot, two-man scramble and the final 18 holes of four-ball. The first round and second round was played on the Highlands/Ranch Course, with the last round played on the Quarry Course.

The Two-Man Shootout is the one of the FSGA's most unique and enjoyable championships combining modified alternate shot, two-man scramble and four-ball.  Competitors will play 36 holes on Saturday with lunch and beverages included in between rounds and follow it up with 18 holes on Sunday.  Each round is considered a specific tournament with prizes being awarded for each individual round as well as an overall winner for the Championship.

Black Diamond Ranch offers a golfing experience unlike any other in Florida.  The Quarry course is an experience in and of itself with multiple holes being carved out of a quarry.  The Quarry course is consistently rated as one of the top courses in the country. Sign up quickly as these spots will fill fast!

Eligibility

Male amateurs must both be members of the FSGA.

Entry Fee

$380 per team ($400 - members who do not have an active FSGA/GHIN Handicap). Late entries will be accepted subject to a $10 late entry fee should the entrant gain acceptance into the field.

Championship Format

The Two-Man Shoot-Out is one of the FSGA's most enjoyable and interesting championships. 

All stroke play,

  • Saturday Morning - Modified Alternate Shot (18 holes) where each player drives, then the team selects a ball to be played into the hole on an alternate shot basis.
  • Saturday Lunch - Included (with draft beverages)
  • Saturday Afternoon Round - Two-Man Scramble (18 holes).
  • Day 2, Third Round -  Four Ball (Best Ball of Two - 18 holes)
  • Play-Off -  If necessary, there will be a three-hole aggregate score play-off for the championship.  The play-off format will be the same as the Championship format (Modified Alternate Shot/Scramble/Four-Ball). If the play-off results in a tie, play will immediately continue, hole by hole. It is the player's responsibility to be present for any play-off.

Rounds & Prizes

Each round of the Shoot-Out is treated as a separate competition and gift certificates are awarded for each round.  There is an over-all prize and Championship Team, but the emphasis and the majority of gift certificates are paid out on the basis of the individual rounds.

Course Set-Up

The golf course will be set-up at approximately 6,600-6,800 yards.

Flights

After 36 holes, the number of flights will be based on the number of teams and/or the range of scores.

  • Saturday AM - Shotgun 8:00 AM - Highland Front/Ranch Back Course -  Alternate Shot
  • Saturday PM - Shotgun 1:30 PM -  Highland Front/Ranch Back Course - Two-Man Scramble
  • Sunday AM - Shotgun 8:00  AM - Quarry Course - Four-Ball (Best Ball)

Practice Rounds

Practice rounds are available one week prior to the championship on a space available basis.  The price for a practice round is $40.00 + tax.  Please call (352) 746-3446 to arrange your practice round. The proper place to practice your golf swing is on the driving range, hitting multiple shots on the course is unacceptable.

Carts

Carts are included for all competitive rounds. Players are responsible for practice round fees.

Bret Voison and Bryce Voisin carded a 69-60-67--196 for the victory at Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club.

Spectators and Caddies

Spectators and caddies are always welcome at FSGA Championships. Only players are allowed to ride in carts.  If a player employs a caddie, the caddie MUST walk and the player's clubs must remain on the golf cart.

The FSGA Championships Committee/on-site Rules Committee reserves the right to alter any of the conditions, provisions, and/or schedules.  The decision of the Championships Committee/on-site Rules Committee in any matter will be final.
