Rokki Rogan and Owen Joyner win the Senior division while Randy Briggs and Berger Warner finish first in the Super-Senior division at the Senior Four-Ball Championship held at Sugar Mill Country Club in New Smyrna Beach, September 29-30.

Round one finished with teammates Rokki Rogan, of Fort Myers and Owen Joyner, of Bonita Springs in the lead of the Senior division. The duo posted an impressive eight-under par round of 64 to take the lead by two strokes over the team of Bill Hardaker and Mike Vallencourt Sr. Randy Elliott and David Anthony finished round one in third place at five-under par, 67. Four-teams would enter day two tied for fourth place at two-under par, 70. The Senior division was flighted for Wednesday’s round with teams shooting 64-73 in the Championship flight and teams shooting 74 and over in the First Flight.

Rokki Rogan and Owen Joyner went wire-to-wire to be named Champions with a second round five-under par, 67. Rogan and Joyner played steady golf during the second round with two birdies on the front-nine and three birdies-on their final nine holes. The duo celebrated their first FSGA Championship victory together with a four-stroke win at the Senior Four-Ball. The team of Chip Peterson and Dennis Brady, both of Melbourne, crept up the leaderboard from tied for fourth place to finish in second place overall. Peterson and Brady were on fire during their second round, carding an eagle of the par five, eighth hole followed by four birdies on the back-nine. The team finished with a round of seven-under par, 65, that moved them into second place (70-65—135).  Bill Hardaker and Mike Vallencourt captured third place with rounds of 66-70—136.

In the Senior division First Flight Bill Moore, of Tampa and Pete DeLongchamp, of Sebring joined forces to fire an impressive 68 in the final round and earn a victory. The pair came back from a first round 76 to finish with an even-par tournament total, 144 to win by one stroke. Walter Himelsbaugh and AJ Kroeger came in second place with rounds of 74-71—145.

The Super-Senior division completed round one with three teams carding under-par rounds. The team from Coral Gables, Herman Klemick and Guido Adler, fired a 67 to steal the lead. The team of Randy Briggs and Berger Warner and duo Bruce Holliday and Fred Peel tied for second place with a two-under par, 70, three strokes from the top. Briggs and Warner made up the three strokes separating them from first place within the first three holes during round two. The team birdied holes one through three, seven and eight on the front-nine for a 31. Staying steady on the back-nine, Briggs and Warner stole first place with final round 67, tournament total 137. Following close, one stroke behind, were Skip Lujack and Pete Andrews who shot ten strokes better in round two with an exceptional 64. Lujack and Andrews seized second place after scores of 74-64—138.

The Senior Four-Ball is a perfect opportunity for a golfing road trip with a buddy. Two days of four-ball flighted after day one, make for an enjoyable and competitive golfing environment.  The championship has two divisions, Senior and a Super Senior. To play in the Super Senior Division both players need to be 65 years old as of the first day of the Championship.  

Championship Format

  • 48 teams; 96 players
  • 36 holes of four-ball stroke play

What is a Four-Ball? - A four-ball is a two person team where the low score of the two players on each hole is counted. It is commonly referred to as a best ball.

Eligibility

  • Male amateurs must be age 55 or older as of September 29, 2015, and both entrants must be members of the FSGA.

Entry Fee

  • $320 per team GHIN Members or Foundation Member
  • $340 per team Non-GHIN Members

Late entries will be accepted subject to a $10 late entry fee should the entrant gain acceptance into the field

Entry Priority

Entries will be accepted based upon the order of receipt. Entries received after the competitive field is full or after the close of entries, will be placed on an alternates list. Alternates will be contacted in
the order of receipt of entry, if and when, a spot becomes available.

Divisions

  • 55-64 - Senior
  • 65 and over - Super-Senior
  • All teams will compete in the age division commensurate with the youngest player's age as of the first day of the Championship

Course Set-Up

The golf course will be set-up at approximately

  • 6,400-6,500 yards - Senior
  • 6,100-6,200 yards - Super Senior

Practice Rounds

Practice rounds are available one week prior to the championship and restricted to after 12:00 PM on Saturday and Sunday. The price for a practice round is $35.00 + tax. Please call (386) 426-5210 to arrange your practice round. The proper place to practice your golf swing is on the driving range, hitting multiple shots on the course is unacceptable.

Defending Champions

The team of Rick Woulfe and Gordon Marshall fired rounds of 66-62--128 (-16) to capture the 40th Senior Four-Ball Championship by eight strokes, while Bruce Scamehorne and Steve Earsley captured the Super Senior Division at Sara Bay Country Club, in Sarasota.

Carts

Carts are included for all competitive rounds. Players are responsible for practice round fees.

Scorecards

Only one of the partners per team need sign the score card and each score to count must be individually identifiable.  See Rule 31-3.
