Fitzpatrick & Martinez Take Championship

At the southern championship, Homestead’s Bruce Fitzpatrick and Miami’s Samuel Martinez scored 66-67--133 to claim the championship title. Second place went to Kevin Schaffel of Pembroke Pines and Lee Fields of Parkland who shot 65-69--134. Paul Melson of Plantation and Steve Sponder of Pembroke Pines scored 69-67--137.

The Mid-Senior Four-Ball Championships were for amateur golfers over the age of 40. The competition used the four-ball stroke play format. In four-ball stroke play, two competitors play as partners with each playing their own ball. The lower score of the partners is the score for the hole.

The championships were the 13th and 14th of 17 state championships conducted annually by the Florida State Golf Association.
