Nakashian Wins Mid-Senior Championship

R J Nakashian fires a tournament total of 213 to win the Florida State Mid-Senior Championship at Amelia Island Plantation in Amelia Island. The Championship was conducted from August 22-24.

R J Nakashian, of Palm Beach, recorded a final round of one-over par 73 to secure the title by one shot. Nakashian opened up his Championship campaign with a stellar round of four-under par 66 on the Ocean Links course, to sit just one shot back entering play on Saturday. After a second round of two-over par 74 on the Oak Marsh course, Nakashian would find himself two shots back of the 36-hole leader, Gordon Marshall, of Sarasota. Nakashian played a steady final round in windy conditions making 15 pars, one birdie and two bogies for his round of 73. This is Nakashian’s first Mid-Senior Championship title. Finishing just one shot behind Nakashian was Doug Snoap, of Apopka. Snoap posted rounds of 71-70-73 for a tournament total of 214. Snoap briefly grabbed the lead on Sunday, but a rough three hole stretch on holes 13-15 derailed his Championship hopes. Kelly Gosse, of Ocala, and Pete Williams, of Juno Beach, finished tied for third place with a tournament total of 216.

To be eligible for the Mid-Senior Championship, players must be 40 years of age or older. Each player played 18-holes each on the Ocean Links and Oak Marsh courses. After 36-holes the field was trimmed to the low 70 and ties, with the final round conducted on the Oak Marsh course, host site of the Big Break Amelia Island.
