Allocation of Qualifying Spots
In order to determine the number of qualifying spots
allocated to each qualifying site after the close of
entries, the following procedure is followed.
-
The number of exempt entries is subtracted from
the total number in the Championship field to
determine the resulting number of spots
available through qualifying to complete the
Championship field.
-
Qualifying spots are then proportionately
allocated by the number of players at each site.
For example, a site that has 20 players
attempting to qualify should have twice the
number of spots as a site that has 10 players
attempting to qualify.
Example: Sample Championship has 20 players in the
Championship field. This year, there were 4 players
who were exempt from qualifying. There are four
qualifying sites with 16, 8, 4 and 12 players
respectively for a total of 40 players attempting to
qualify. How many spots are allocated to each site?
Where does each site stand on the reallocation list?

Site
A 16 players

C 4 players

D 12 players
40 Players attempting to qualify
Qualifying ratio = number of available spots divided
by the number of players attempting to qualify =
16/40=0.40
Multiply the number of players at each site to
determine the number of spots at each site.
Site
A 16 X 0.40 = 6.4 = rounded to 6
spots
Site
B 8 X 0.40 = 3.2 = rounded to 3
spots
Site
C 4 X 0.40 = 1.6 = rounded to 2
spots
Site
D 12
X 0.40 = 4.8 = rounded to 5 spots
Reallocation List
The numbers of qualifying spots determined for each
site are often rounded up or down. This rounding
results in some sites being shorted up to half a
spot and other sites being given up to an additional
half a spot. The sites are then ranked in order
according to the amount their spots have been
rounded. The site rounded down the most is first
on the reallocation list and the site rounded up
the most is last on the reallocation list.
From the example above:
Site
A was rounded down from 6.4 to
6 or minus 0.4
Site
B was rounded down from 3.2 to
3 or minus 0.2
Site
C was rounded up from 1.6 to 2
or plus 0.4
Site
D was rounded up from 4.8 to 5 or plus
0.2
Site A
had the most subtracted from its total number of
spots (-0.4) and will be first on the reallocation
list. Site B had the second most subtracted (-0.2)
and will be second on the reallocation list. Site C
was given an additional four-tenths (+0.4) of a spot
and will be last on the reallocation list while site
D was given an additional two-tenths (+0.2) and will
be third on the reallocation list.

After a spot is assigned to a site via the
reallocation list, that site then goes to the bottom
of the reallocation list. If that site is not able
to fill a qualifying spot from its alternates list,
the spot is then reallocated to the next site in
order on the reallocation list.
Qualified Player Withdraws
If a player that has qualified for a Championship
withdraws, the next alternate from the same
qualifying location will immediately be contacted at
the contact information (phone numbers, emails, etc)
provided and given the opportunity to replace the
withdrawn player. If that alternate cannot fill the
spot, that alternate will be withdrawn and the next
alternate from the same qualifying location will be
called at the contact information provided and given
the opportunity to replace the withdrawn player.
If a player that has qualified for a Championship
withdraws and there are no more alternates available
from the same qualifying location, that spot is
reallocated via the reallocation list.
Exempt Player Withdraws
If an exempt player withdraws from a Championship,
that spot is reallocated via the reallocation list.
On-Site Alternates
Qualifying for Championships
- If a player withdraws or no-shows on the day of
the qualifier, the spot will be filled by an
alternate standing by on site. Should there be more
than one alternate on site; the highest ranking
alternate on the list of alternates for that site
will be entered. Alternates for qualifying sites are
ranked by order of receipt of entries.
Championships Requiring Qualifying
– If a player withdraws or no-shows on the first day
of the Championship, the site from which the
withdrawing or no-showing player qualified will be
identified and that spot will be filled by the
highest ranking alternate standing by on the list of
alternates from that site. Should there be no
alternate from that site standing by; the spot will
be filled by the highest ranking alternate standing
by on the list of alternates from the highest ranked
site on the reallocation list.
If the withdrawing or no-showing player was exempt
from qualifying, the spot will be filled by the
highest ranking alternate standing by on the list of
alternates from the highest ranked site on the
reallocation list
Championships Not Requiring Qualifying
- If a player withdraws or no-shows on the first day
of Championship, the spot will be filled by an
alternate standing by. Should there be more than one
alternate on site; the highest ranking alternate on
the list of alternates will be entered.
The FSGA does not encourage players to show up on
site as alternates. There is no guarantee of gaining
entry into the event. It is up to the alternate to
make that decision.
