Over the past 4-5 years,
there has been an increased focus on club fitting.
Players were frequently buying clubs off the rack, not
specifically designed for the golfer. To me as a Golf
Professional, this doesn't make sense. When the best
players in the world are all custom fit, then mere
mortals like ourselves should be first in line.
Golfers come in all shapes
and sizes. PING was the first to address this issue, all
of the other club manufacturers have caught on over the
past decade. I use an analogy of buying a suit, how
successful would your clothing store be if there was
only one size to choose from. This is the advantage of
club fitting, changing the clubs to match the person,
not the person trying to fit the clubs. This just makes
sense. Tiger put it very plainly a few years ago by
saying "the most important thing that any golfer can do
to improve their game is to be custom fit for all of their
clubs." Almost every PGA run facility has at least one
club fitting cart with trained Golf Professionals to
help the player achieve their intended goals.
Custom fitting helps players maximize their efforts
for both distance and direction. This increases the
enjoyment factor which keeps players playing better and
longer. |
