How to Hit Solid Golf Shots in the Wind
by Robert Dugger, Director of Golf, Amelia Island Plantation
15th hole of the Ocean Links course at Amelia Island

The Ocean Links course at Amelia Island Plantation has five holes that play along the Atlantic Ocean. One of the major challenges playing these holes is the wind. Playing a knock-down shot is ideal for these conditions, but amateurs don't seem to know how to do it.

To hit a good knock-down shot you must first position the ball in the back of your stance, for a right hand player, just right of center. Second, take more club to reduce loft. In some cases you may have to take 2 or 3 more clubs because the wind is 25 -30 mph. Third, widen your stance for better stability and balance. Finally, you are ready to swing. Take a three-quarter swing and swing easy. The shot produce hopefully has a lower penetrating ball flight which cuts through the wind.

Good luck and good golfing. If you have any further questions, consult you local PGA golf professional.
