Educational Video
Clips Available from the USGA
by Shelly Foy, USGA
Green Section, Florida Region |
How may times have you
been out for a round of golf and found yourself uttering
curses at the golf course superintendent because he just
aerated the golf course and there are holes all over the
greens or fairways? Do you find yourself thinking that
surely he or she does that just to annoy the golfers?
Aeration is probably one of the most irritating and
unpopular maintenance practices on golf courses, but
what you might not know is how vital this practice is to
ensure that golfers have great playing conditions the
majority of the year. I could write a two page article
about the benefits of aeration, but the USGA has a
better way to share this information.
The USGA Green Section has developed a series of
educational video clips that illustrate various golf
course maintenance practices and the role they play in
quality playing conditions.
The following are the turfgrass animation video clips
you can view:
Repairing Ball Marks
Why Bunkers Are Not Consistent
Bunker Etiquette
Why Aerate Greens?
Etiquette Toward Maintenance Personnel
Watering for Healthy Turf
Selecting Hole Locations
Changing A Hole Location
Trees On The Golf Course
Divot Repair Etiquette
Use Of The Stimpmeter
Golf Cart Etiquette
Frost Issues
Making A Great Putting Green Surface
TV Golf Versus Daily Play
Environmentally Sensitive Areas
So don’t let your golf course maintenance frustrations
get the better of you. Go to
http://www.usga.org/turf/articles/educational_video_clips.html and get the scoop for yourself! Share the video clips
with other golfers and you might just find that your
next round of golf will be much more enjoyable.
The USGA also has educational video clips on the Rules
of Golf. You can find short video clips on anything from
putting green etiquette, the definition of a hazard,
attending and unauthorized attendance of the flagstick
and 23 additional topics to help you understand how to
properly apply the Rules of Golf. You can find these
video clips at
http://www.usga.org/playing/rules/animations/index.html.
In addition, if you would like to purchase a copy of the
CD that has both the Rules of Golf and turfgrass
maintenance animations, please call the USGA Order
Department at 1-800-336-4446. The CD is titled: The USGA
Golfer’s Guide: An Animated Journey from Tee To Green.
