The
Arnold Palmer Golf Academy Professionals at the Saddlebrook
Resort
in Wesley Chapel have a drill that
is sure to prepare you for your round.
Purpose:
1. To maintain posture throughout the swing.
2. To obtain the feel of the shoulders rotating around the
spine.
3. To create and feel smooth tempo.
4. To feel the response of the lower body that creates
weight transfer and balance.
Method:
1. Standing upright, fold arms on the chest and hold club
across the shoulders.

2. Bend forward from the waist creating a straight back and
the feeling of your rear end sticking outward.
3. Actively rotate the shoulders around the spine until a
slight catch is felt in the lower back.

4. Rotate the shoulders forward until the body is facing the
target.
5. As the shoulders actively rotate, the rest of the body is
allowed to respond freely. While rotating, allow the weight
to transfer to the back foot and then to the front foot
ensuring your back foot is on the toe when finished.
Use:
1. Do five drills focusing on the entire method slowly
increasing the speed to replicate the golf swing.
2. Hit five shots with a short iron off a tee trying to
duplicate the feel in the drill.
3. Alternate five drills and five shots.
4. Try to do the drill in front of a mirror to see what you
are feeling.
Once you begin to feel the proper motion you will quickly
notice the direction of the golf ball will be straighter and
longer. |
