Golf World Announces First Men's College Coaches' Poll Of 2007; New Poll Will Be Known As The Golf World/Nike Golf Coaches' Poll

Florida Replaces Alabama as the Top Men's Team

The very first Golf World/Nike Golf Coaches' Poll has been released, combining the resources of Golf World magazine, Nike Golf and the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). The poll is based on the selections of twenty men's coaches from across the country. The complete results, including results from Divisions II, III and the NAIA, will appear in the February 23 issue of Golf World and can be viewed online now at www.golfworld.com/menspoll.

Florida, previously number two in Golf World's last College Coaches' Poll of 2006, has claimed the top spot from Alabama after winning its opening tournament of the spring. The Gators have played six tournaments in the 2006-07 season and have two wins and six top-five finishes. The team is led by sophomore Billy Horschel, who has one individual win (Ping Preview), five top-ten finishes and a 71.07 stroke average, and junior Manuel Villegas, who has one individual win (SunTrust Gator Invitational), three top-ten finishes and a 71.53 average.

Rounding out the top five are: Stanford (No.2), who moves up two spots after winning the University of Hawaii-Hilo Intercollegiate; Oklahoma State (No.3); Alabama (No.4); Georgia (No.5).
