  Bret Voisin, 2006 Mid-Amateur Champion

The field is set as 90 players have advanced to compete in the 26th Florida State Mid-Amateur Championship at John’s Island Club in Vero Beach this week, October 4-7.

This year’s field includes five past Mid-Amateur Champions competing for the 2007 title. Defending Champion Bret Voisin, of Orlando, is looking to make it two in a row as Jen Veneziano, of Mount Dora, hopes to repeat his 2005 performance. Other past Champions playing this year include 2004 Champion Steve Carter, of Jacksonville, 2003 Champion Ryan Konkus, of Hobe Sound, and 1993 Champion Bruce Scamehorn, of Winter Haven. Rick Woulfe, of Fort Lauderdale, is going for his fifth title this year at the Mid-Amateur after winning the
Senior, Senior Match Play, Mid-Senior and Mid-Amateur Four-Ball South Championship in 2007. Woulfe has won a total of nine State Championships and attempts for his first Mid-Amateur title.

To be eligible for the State Mid-Amateur, participants must be 25 years of age or older as of October 4, 2007. Players attempted to qualify at one of nine sites in 18-holes of stroke play. The Championship consists of 36-holes of stroke play over the first two days with the lowest 32 advancing to the match play.
