Course Rating Tip
By Gary Donat, Director of Course Rating
Beginning this year, our rating teams started using an absolute method of recording values. Since using the absolute method of recorded values in form 1’s, I have seen many instances of teams using relative values for doglegs and lay-ups.

+50 -50

This value entry tells me using absolute method of recording values that a particular hole’s effective playing length increased for scratch 50 yards and for the bogey golfer was shortened 50 yards, a very unlikely scenario. The correct entry should be if the hole has forced scratch to lay up by 50 yards.

Also, remember a positive value means the hole’s effective playing length has become longer and a negative value means the hole’s effective playing length has become shorter for the scratch or bogey golfer.
