Beginning this year, our rating
teams started using an absolute method of recording values.
Since using the absolute method of recorded values in form 1’s, I
have seen many instances of teams using relative values for
doglegs and lay-ups.
This value entry tells me using absolute method of recording
values that a particular hole’s effective playing length
increased for scratch 50 yards and for the bogey golfer was
shortened 50 yards, a very unlikely scenario. The correct entry
should be if the hole has forced scratch to lay up by 50 yards.
Also, remember a positive value means the hole’s effective
playing length has become longer and a negative value means the
hole’s effective playing length has become shorter for the
scratch or bogey golfer.
