Old
Corkscrew Golf Club has only been open for one year but already
has a list
of accolades to add to its resume. The National Golf Course
Owners Association recently named Old Corkscrew the 2008
Florida Golf Course of the Year and Golf Digest magazine
ranked Old Corkscrew number four on its list of
America's Best New Courses.
This April, senior
golfers across the state will travel to Old Corkscrew
for the Senior Amateur Championship and test this Jack
Nicklaus Signature Course. The Club is the only
Signature Nicklaus Design non-residential course in
Southwest Florida. A Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course
is the highest standard of design offered by Nicklaus
Design and includes Jack Nicklaus’ personal oversight
and involvement in every step of the design and
construction.
Old Corkscrew is an
18-hole golf facility located on Corkscrew Road between
Fort Myers and Naples on a 275-acre
magnificently wooded site of native oak hammocks,
towering slash pines, sabal palms and palmettos that,
along with the natural flow way that cuts through the
center of the property, creates beautiful vistas of
lakes and preserves which enhance the golfing
experience. The par-72 championship golf course is a
free-standing recreational facility; no residential
development will ever occur on the site.
Certified
as an Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary, golfers will enjoy
Old Corkscrew's natural setting, complete with stands of
cypress, magnificently tall pines, mature oaks and
nesting colonies of wood storks, egrets and herons. Old
Corkscrew is committed to preserving and enhancing the
environment with its unique landscape and wildlife
evident on the course.
In July 2007, Old Corkscrew hosted a US Amateur Qualifying event
and is the host site of the 2008 Senior Amateur
Championship on April 15-17. For those golfers, 55 or
