Do you aim at the flagstick? Well,
Don’t. Try this instead.
Next time you are playing in a
heated match try to aim at something (it could be anything) in
the distance that you know there is no chance of hitting with
that 8 iron you have selected. The object that you are aiming at
could be a tree 1,000 yards in the distance. This will allow you,
as a golfer, to make a normal swing at the golf ball instead of a
rushed, “I need to get this there” swing. You will be amazed at
how much your ball striking ability will improve.
Another tip that goes along with
directional aiming is club selection. Amateur golfers try to
over power every iron in their bag. Most amateurs have hit a 7
iron 165 yards one time in their golfing career and now believe
that every time they are 165 yards they pull the 7 iron. To
become the best golfer you can be, learn what actual yardage you
play your irons to and take an extra club if needed. No one will
care what you hit from 165 yards after you win the skins game. |
