The
field is complete as 84 players have advanced to the 27th
Florida State Mid-Amateur Championship at Coral Creek
Club in Placida this week, October 2-5.
This year’s field includes four past Mid-Amateur Champions
competing for the 2008 title. Defending Champion Edward
Kenny, of Lake Worth, is looking to make it two in a row
as Bret Voisin, of Orlando, hopes to repeat his 2006
performance. Other past Champions playing this year include
2005 Champion Jon Veneziano, of Eustis, and 2004
Champion Steve Carter, of Jacksonville. Rick
Woulfe, of Fort Lauderdale, winner of four State
Championship titles in 2007 and the FSGA Senior Player of
the Year, is also in the field along with the 2008
Mid-Senior Champion, Peter Wegmann, of Fort
Lauderdale.
To be eligible for the State Mid-Amateur, participants must
be 25 years of age or older as of October 4, 2007. Players
attempted to qualify at one of nine sites in 18-holes of
stroke play. The Championship consists of 36-holes of stroke
play qualifying over the first two days with the lowest 32
advancing to the match play on Saturday and Sunday.
