Did you play golf as a child? I've Played Golf
since I've been six (57 years!) Caddied at Bellevue CC
Syracuse NY from 12 years old to 21 years old.
When did you move to Florida? 2003 upon retiring.
We moved to Venice, FL.
What line of work were you in/what different careers
did you have? I've always been in Sales. I've
worked with a few companies, including Surgical Sutures
American Cyanimid selling hospital equipment, Lamson
Company selling exhausters & centrifugal pumps, Halls
Motor Transit selling freight services, and I
spent 20 years with AT&T,Lucent Technologies & Avaya
selling PBX, voice mail, video and teleconferencing
equipment.
How did you get involved with the FSGA?
Introduced to FSGA by Larry Flynn from Sarasota, FL. I
Became a Tournament Committeeman in 2004.
What is your involvement with the FSGA? I work
about a dozen tournaments a year where they need me:
anywhere from registration, starter, rover, forecaddie,
to scoring.
What's the best thing about volunteering? The
PEOPLE of GOLF are great. The Pros and their staffs,
volunteers, Superintendents and their staffs, the Staff
& volunteers of the FSGA and the competitors, especially
the juniors.
Do you have any special memories of volunteering?
My annual sojourn to the FHSAA State Tournament to
volunteer in their Championship is special! To see the
enthusiasm, emotion and dedication to the game of golf
from these young men and women is truly awesome!
Have you attended any seminars (Rules of Golf or
Course Rating)? I have attended the one day Rules
Seminar every year since 2005.
Tell us about your family: I'm been married to the
former Eileen O'Niell for 38 years. We have two sons
Mike and Matt. Mike and his wife Jen blessed us with a
grandson, Max, in August 2008. Mike and Jen live in
Webster, NY (outside Rochester NY). Matt has a BS in
Music from Colorado State University . He currently
works and plays his music in Ft. Collins, CO.
Do you currently play golf/any holes-in-one? I
currently have 6.9 index and have made 3 Hole in Ones .
(All in New York. None in Florida ...yet!)
Anything else you wish to share with us? Although
you may not recognize me but I'm the guy holding the
sign at the ON RAMP near you with the sign that reads,"
WILL WORK FOR GOLF!!!" That includes volunteering!! I'm
compelled to give back to the game that has given so
much to me.
