The 2007 Volunteers-of-the-Year were also recognized
at the Florida State Golf Association’s annual dinner. Volunteers-of-the-Year
are presented with an award for their hard work
and dedication to the FSGA.
Michael Lonergan and Scrib Kelly, of The Villages, were
selected as the Tournament Volunteers-of-the-Year. In their short
time with the FSGA, the two have volunteered at more than 100 events
combined. Scrib started with the FSGA in 2005 while Mike joined in
2006 and they haven’t stopped since. They work at all events ranging
from the Florida Junior Tour to Winter Series and recently helped
with the High School Championships. They actively recruit new
volunteers in The Villages area and bring interested volunteers
along to events. They are credited for introducing many new
volunteers to the FSGA and organizing the group to travel together
to events. They even hold a monthly Rules get together to discuss
Rules scenarios and freshen up their Rules knowledge. Mike and Scrib
are already registered to volunteer at many events in 2008.
In the Course Rating area, Ron Audi, of Ocala, was awarded
the Volunteer-of-the-Year. With ten years of course rating
experience in Vermont, Ron joined the Section 5 Course Rating Team
in 2001 and became Captain in 2003. With seven counties and over 100
courses to rate, Ron’s team keeps busy rating 10-12 courses per
year. Ron was selected three times to attend the USGA Eastern
Calibration where the FSGA team took top honors. A past Board
Member, Ron continues his course rating education by attending
seminars and sharing his experiences with his team.
