Ryan Orr Wins FJT Major at Innisbrook

May 27, 2012

Belleair's Ryan Orr erased a five-stroke deficit on the final day of the Florida Junior Tour's (FJT) boys 16-18 division major at Innisbrook Resort on May 26-28. The event was sponsored by the David Leadbetter Golf Academy.

Orr was the model of consistency throughout the week shooting rounds of 71-72 in the first two rounds leaving him five shots back of leader, Hunter O'Mahony.  Ryan continued his solid play in blustery conditions on Monday, carding a one-over par round of 72, including birdies on holes #1 and #12. O'Mahony, the reigning Boys' Junior Champion fired opening rounds of 68-70 to put himself in the driver's seat heading into Monday's final round.  However, the Tequesta native was unable to negotiate the Copperhead course's famed "snake pit" (holes 16, 17, and 18) as he played the final three holes in five over par and opened the door for Orr.  This win is Orr's second top five FJT finish of 2012 after finishing in 5th place at Brooksville on January 21-22.

O"Mahony finished alone in 2nd place with a tournament total 217 while Ryan Stovash and Colin Englehardt of Orlando finished in a tie for third at 219.  Stovash has now finished in the top three in each of his last three FJT events.  Bradenton's Charles Wang aced the 17th hole in the final round.
