Gifford & Lamoureux Win at Kingsway

After battling through intense heat and dodging rain storms, round one of the first Florida Junior Tour (13-15) event of the 2015-2016 season was complete. Luke Gifford, of Boca Raton, posted the only under-par round of 71 to lead the Boys’ division by two-strokes.  Tampa resident, Jackson Suber, and Leopoldo Herrea, of Doral, finished day one tied for second with rounds of 73. 72. Traveling from Windermere, Katie You, posted a first round 73 to trail Lamoureux by one shot. Loren Perez, of Bartow, finished day one in third place, two strokes from Lamoureux. 

First place did not see a change after the final round on Sunday. Luke Gifford and Alyssa Lamoureux held onto their lead to start the season with a bang. Gifford shot a second round 74 for a tournament total 145 and a three-stroke victory. Breaking free of his first round tie for second place, Leopoldo Herrera posted a 75 in round two to capture second place alone. Tyler Wilkes came back from a round one 76 with a day two score of 73 to tie Jackson Suber for third place. Alyssa Lamoureux fired one bogey and three birdies to shoot the tournament low score of 70 for a tournament total 142 and a five-stroke win. Pano, of Lake Worth, shot an impressive one-under par 71 to move up the leaderboard to second place with a tournament total 147. Macy Somoskey finished in third place with rounds of 78-76—154.

Alyssa Lamoureux can add this victory to her list of accomplishments for the year which include a runner-up finish at the Women’s Amateur Championship and qualifying for the U.S. Girls’ Junior to name a few. Luke Gifford achieved his first win at a FSGA event at Kingsway Country Club. The next 13-15 FJT will be played at Sugar Mill Country Club in New Smyrna Beach September 12-13.
