Fort Myers Local Takes Fiddlesticks

Lynda Case captures the Senior title & Meredith Wolf prevails to win the Super Senior

Lynda Case captured the 2012 Women's Senior Amateur Championship as Meredith Wolf captured the Super Senior Division at Fiddlesticks Country Club in Fort Myers, June 6-7.

Lynda Case, a Fort Myers local, was the model of consistency throughout the week shooting under par on the challenging front nine both days.  After the first round, she trailed Mary Jane Hiestand, from Naples, by two strokes and was followed closely by Therese Quinn, from Jacksonville. In the final round, it was Case’s consistent play that brought her back from behind and scored her a tournament total of 146, putting her three strokes ahead of Quinn and six strokes in front of Hiestand. In the Senior Championship Second Flight, Nancy Smith, from North Port, captured the win with rounds of 83-77 over Sandie St. Onge, from Jensen Beach. In the Senior Championship Third Flight, Linda McMillan, from Ormond Beach, surpassed Ann Fulginiti, from Plantation, by eight strokes to take the win.

Meredith Wolf, from Wellington, prevailed in a play-off to win the Super Senior division with a tournament total of 177. After leading the first round with 84, Wolf was joined by Melinda Morgan, of Debary, who came from behind with 85 to share the first place spot in the final round. It took only one playoff hole for Wolf to regain the title and win the division.

Strong competition continued in the Field Division's play. Debbie Reese, from Lakewood Ranch, grabbed the title in the Senior Field Division First flight, while Gilda Perez won the Second Flight and Ming Tong the Third. In the Super Senior Field Division, Sandra Darr, from Plantation, took the First flight and Charliene Lemon-Steiner the Second Flight.

The Fiddlesticks Country Club’s Long Mean course is a Ron Garl design and the site of the 2010 US Senior Amateur Championship. Play of the Senior and Super-Senior Championship Division consisted of 36-holes of individual stroke, with flights determined after the first round. The Senior and Super-Senior Field Divisions competed for gross and net prizes and were pre-flighted based on their handicap index.
