Florida, Georgia and Alabama Face Off in Ocala

June 25, 2012

Beginning this year, the Florida State Golf Association will participate in the biennial Women’s Southeastern Challenge Match, a new event for women amateur golfers who will represent the Florida State Golf Association, Alabama State Golf Association and Georgia State Golf Association.

The first Southeast Challenge Match will take place August 13-14, 2012, at the Country Club of Ocala in Ocala, Fla.  This competition will replace the Georgia-Florida Women’s Team Matches, which began in 1981.

The format of play will mirror the men's Southeastern Challenge Match, with two days of competition. The first day will include two matches: morning four-ball matches and afternoon foursome (alternate shot) matches. The second day will consist of 12 total single matches, with a player from each association in each match competing against one another (three-ball match).

Each association team will consist of 12 members. The composition of each team will be as follows:

  • (2) Women Senior players with the highest point totals from the Women's Senior Two Year Points List
(due to major changes to the Points System between 2011 and 2012, the Championship Committee will use the 2011 and 2012 player rankings to help select the second player on the team)
  • (2) Women Senior players selected by the FSGA Championship Committee
  • (3) Women players with the highest point totals from the Women Two Year Points List
(due to major changes to the Points System between 2011 and 2012, the Championship Committee will use the 2011 and 2012 player rankings to help select the second player on the team)
  • (5) Women players selected by the FSGA Championship Committee

Players will be chosen and invited by the Championship Committee with selection criteria to include, but not be limited to, the FSGA Player of the Year points list standings as of July 9, 2012 after the FSGA Women’s Stroke Play Championship.
